Around Mysore there are three major nesting sites for the Spot Billed Pelican - shared with the Painted Stork, Spoonbill and Night Herons among others.
Above: - a Pelican taking a fish from the surface - on the wing. Right - Pelicans may look awkward in the air but as I have witnessed they are just as adept in the air as many eagles.

Photo note: Normally when photographing birds in India, a 300mm lens will cope with most situations.

In this part of India, all the interesting birds are at treetop level. Example above is the full frame at 300mm of the Malabar Parakeet featured at the top of the page. I suggest you may need 500mm or more and a couple of converters to do a proper job.

To speed up the loading of these pages I've deliberately reduced the sizes of these images. The quality of the photographs can be seen on the right which shows a part of the spoonbill picture - actual size.

Some of the photos shown have been enlarged from quite small images where I thought the rarity of the subject would be of interest. Therefore check with me if you want any of these images as to the suitability for your purpose.

To add to the degree of difficulty, as I have hinted on other pages, natural camouflage works really well.
